A number of police surgeries and Partners and Communities Together (PACT) meetings are scheduled to be held across Stoke-on-Trent over the next few days. Officers from Neighbourhood Policing Units (NPUs) across the division will be on hand to meet members of the community and offer crime reduction advice. Stoke City’s home game with Blackburn on Saturday was saddened with the death of a travelling Blackburn supporter. The man of 30, who has not yet been named, was found collapsed on the South Stand concourse just after 4pm on Saturday 6th February. Some 1,300 travelling fans were using that area of the ground.

Burglars are risking the lives of themselves and innocent members of the public by committing crime. The warning has been issued by police in Stoke-on-Trent following an incident at an address in Scotia Road just after 8.30pm on Monday.

Two men have been arrested by police following raids on separate addresses in Longton. Officers from Longton Neighbourhood Policing Unit (NPU) executed the warrants under the Misuse of Drugs Act. A 43-year-old man was arrested at an address in Rothesey Road, Longton, yesterday afternoon (thurs) after officers seized a quantity of amphetamine and cannabis vegetation.

Staffordshire Police is launching a force-wide operation to tackle violent crime. Aimed mainly at alcohol-related town centre violence and disorder, Operation Safer Nights brings together under one banner a number of policing activities aimed at reducing violent incidents in town centres. It is being rolled out across the force area in time for the Christmas party season, one of the peaks for this type of crime.

Officers executed warrants under the Misuse of Drugs Act at two addresses in the city today (16 December) under Operation Nemesis, following information from local residents and two men were arrested. Officers recovered drugs from an address in Williamson Street, Tunstall. Meanwhile a warrant was executed in Dartmouth Street, Burslem where several plants, believed to be cannabis plants, were recovered.

Police Officers will be out in force in Tunstall town centre in the run-up to Christmas to reassure shoppers and crackdown on criminals. Increased high visibility foot patrols will now take place across the town centre by local neighbourhood officers. Shoppers are encouraged to talk to members of the local policing team, who will be working hard to make visitors feel safe and welcome. They will also be targeting would-be criminals who prey on shoppers.

Tony and I went to Longton police station this afternoon to interview Inspector Sharrad-Williams. Hhe told us that while he has been standing under his billboard on Weston Road in Meir, over the past few days he has been impressed with the number of people that have come out to speak to him. On Monday in the rain he said he spoke to 32 members of the public in the 2 hours while he was in Meir. Residents in Longton and Meir are invited to meet their local police commander this week, and a new billboard will leave them in no doubt of where and when to find him. A 20ft by 10ft billboard has been sited on Weston Road in Meir (near The Broadway) inviting people to come and speak to the local commander. Inspector Elliott Sharrard-Williams, who is responsible for the neighbourhood policing team covering Longton and Meir.
