A 36-year-old man, from Stoke-on-Trent, has been arrested in connection with a house fire on Lightwood Road in Longton. Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service were called to a house on Lightwood Road in Longton at around 4am this morning. A motorcycle next to the property was ablaze and the flames had spread to the entrance of the three-storey property, blocking the five occupant’s exit and trapping them inside in a bedroom.
Thanks to the Government Kickstart fund winning bid, plans for better bus links to the North Staffordshire hospital on the London Road can now taken shape. Hospital users in North Staffordshire and Stoke are to get a major boost thanks to £388,000 brought in by transport chiefs in the city and the county.
Stoke City’s home game with Blackburn on Saturday was saddened with the death of a travelling Blackburn supporter. The man of 30, who has not yet been named, was found collapsed on the South Stand concourse just after 4pm on Saturday 6th February. Some 1,300 travelling fans were using that area of the ground.
Three general wards at UHNS are currently closed to new admissions because of the prevalence of Norovirus and the hospital has today announced a second restriction on hospital visiting times.
