Artwork to be returned to Burslem Park after 50 years

A sculpture will be unveiled in Burslem Park on Monday over 50 years after its predecessor went missing from the same spot.

The newly erected Mayfly sculpture replaces a statue of a water nymph, donated to the park in 1894 by Sir Donald Doulton, which went missing through an act of vandalism in the early 1960s. The unveiling takes place just under a week before Burslem Park will be officially reopened following a two year multimillion pound restoration project. Those who thought all out elections would bring some stability to our Council must be feeling embarrassed this week as Council Leader Mohammed Pervez took a scalpel to his cabinet, cutting out the disobedient Gratton and challenger Hill, and carving up the other portfolios in what is quite clearly more than the ‘tweaking’ he described it as.

The introduction of Platt and Dutton is seen as a nod to the left wingers in the group, who re-emerged in 2011 to rival the modernisers who were in danger of taking over Labour. Continue reading

Stoke-on-Trent City Council Leader announces his new cabinet

Stoke-on-Trent City Council Leader Councillor Mohammed Pervez has given details of his new Cabinet after the reshuffle at Monday nights Labour Group AGM which saw Debra Gratton & Sarah Hill removed.

Sarah Hill subsequently resigned her position as a Councillor forcing a by-election in the Springfields and Trent Vale ward. Continue reading

6 Towns Radio interviews City Councillors

Burslem based 6 Towns Radio are going to be broadcasting interviews with the 44 City Councillors giving you the chance to hear from the representative of your ward on their plans for the term of their office, the issues they are currently dealing with in your area and any of their ideas and aspirations.

Cllr Andy Platt, was the first one to step in to the studio and you can hear his interview below.

  • Cllr. Andy Lilley (Baddeley, Milton and Norton) – Tuesday 20th September @ 1.30pm

Each week Tuesdays editions of Talk Of The Towns 1pm to 3pm and Fridays editions of The Mid Morning Show 10am to 1pm will feature live studio chats and interviews with as many of the 44 of the councillors for the area that can be arranged over the coming months.
